George Bradshaw was born in 1801 in Salford, England, and died on the 6th of September in 1853 in Christiania, Norway. He spent some years in Belfast and tried to establish himself as a printer and an engraver. After the desired success came to nothing, he returned to Manchester. In the year 1827 he decided to turn towards map engraving. In 1839, after the start of the railway system, he produced “Bradshaw’s Railway Time Tables”. Four years later, in cooperation with WJ Adams, he edited “Bradshaw’s Monthly Railway Guide”, which was a travelers´ handbook.
