A rose is any perennial shrub or bush of the genus Rosa, within the Rosaceae family that commonly has five-petaled fragrant flowers. However, several varieties and hybrids from many of the wild species, which have a lot more pedals, have been cultivated. Roses can be red, pink, yellow, or white. Most roses are native to Asia, but are now grown everywhere in the world.
The flowers of the rose bush are admired and universally known. They appear in art and poetry and are used for decoration, as well as for making perfume.
In the story, the rose is connected with Titian, an Italian painter of the Renaissance.
The rose appears in some of Titian’s paintings such as The Venus of Urbino, and Venus and Cupid, both exhibited today in the Uffizi Gallery, Florence.
