“Lycidas” is a poem written by John Milton in 1637, consisting of 193 lines. It first appeared in a volume of elegies, Justa Edouardo King Naufrago, in 1638, dedicated to the memory of Edward King. Edward was a friend of Milton from the University of Cambridge, who drowned when his ship sank in August 1637.
Milton republished the poem in his collection, Poems of Mr. John Milton, in 1645.
