Leonardo da Vinci was an Italian painter, sculptor, architect, musician, mechanic, engineer, philosopher and scientist; also known as a real Renaissance man.
He was born on April 15, 1452 near the village Vinci in Italy and died on May 2, 1519, in France. He was an illegitimate child and his father was the notary Ser Piero da Vinci. At the age of 15, Leonardo was apprenticed to Andrea del Verrocchio, one of the most important artists of Florence, who influenced his artistic career a lot. He became an independent master around 1478 in Florence, but was later hired in Milan, France and Rome. He spent his last years in Cloux, France, after being invited there by King Francis I of France.
Leonardo is famous for his paintings such as the Mona Lisa, today exhibited in the Louvre in Paris, the Last Supper and Madonna of the Rocks. His work deeply influenced the art of painting for the following generations.
