Carlo Crivelli was a painter born around 1430/35 in Venice, Italy. There is not much known about him besides the few following facts. After he got arrested for adultery in Venice in 1457, he left the city and spent most of his life in Le Marche, Italy, where he died around 1494. He was a successful maker of altarpieces there.
His style was very individual with elements of the Late Gothic style, and his pictures are all of religious subject. Some of his most important works are Madonna and child images, portrayals of the Pietà, and the Coronation of the Virgin.
