The Baptist minister

The Baptist minister is “a member of an evangelical Protestant church of congregational polity.”1 Throughout the story it does not become quite clear what connects him to Mrs. Glenn. They share some core values, like “freewill and predestination”2 as well as their aversion towards Ruby Glenn. “He never took any more notice of me [Ruby] than if I'd been a piece of furniture.”3 It is not apparent if his antipathy towards Ruby is rooted in a general dislike, or if it is a result of trying to please Mrs. Glenn in order to be accepted by her.
