The Baptist minister

The Baptist minister is “a member of an evangelical Protestant church of congregational polity.”¹ Throughout the story it does not become quite clear what connects him to Mrs. Glenn. They share some core values, like “freewill and predestination”² as well as their aversion towards Ruby Glenn. “He never took any more notice of me [Ruby] than if I'd been a piece of furniture.”³ It is not apparent if his antipathy towards Ruby is rooted in a general dislike, or if it is a result of trying to please Mrs. Glenn in order to be accepted by her.
