Mrs. Gildermere

Mrs. Gildermere is holds the Gildermere balls. Her events seem to be liked by most members of New York's high society, since most of them gather around those balls.

A “Gilder” is someone who gilds¹ and mere means being nothing more/less than something ². The Gildermere ball gilds up the (by social conventions redistricted) lives of those who are born into New York's upper class.
