Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by bacteria from the family of mycobacteria, which has a total of over 160 different members. Characteristic symptoms of pulmonary tuberculosis include cough, low fever, weight loss, and rare blood cough.
The disease is caused by droplet infection, which is named after the small nodules, which are inflammatory hotspots trapped by the immune system. These "tubercles" can be visible on an X-ray image. 1
In the past, tuberculosis was also called consumption (dizziness), as it leads to severe weight loss at an advanced stage. Today, with timely diagnosis, the disease is well treatable. 2
