A cup of cold water
The title of the story seems to have nothing to do with the story itself. A cup of cold water is not even mentioned once. Interestingly, there is a Bible verse that connects the title to the story.
There, Jesus said:
“And whoever gives one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.” Matthew 10:42. 1
It is said that “little things, small things, insignificant things are used by Jesus to make huge differences.” 2 Hospitality is an important virtue to a Christian. According to the Scripture, even a cup of cold water is seen as a hospitable and welcoming gesture “or in the original language, xenophilia — love of the stranger. “ 3
