General Information

The Sussex Downs are a hilly area in the south of England. They are a part of East and West Sussex as well as the area of Hampshire with an estimated size of approximately 100 kilometers in length. The highest point is Buster Hill which reaches about 200 meters into the sky. The Sussex Downs are one of the most heavily wooded areas in England and have many underground caves of which some can even be entered from the surface ([1] p. 15). The landscape is also covered by many hill-forts which were built to defend against invaders. The most famous group of hill-forts is called South Downs Way ([1] p. 68). The economy of the Sussex Downs is mainly sheep farming with some smaller areas that specialize in wine. Besides that the entertainment and tourist industry are slowly on the rise with national parks, resorts and museums ([1] p. 73).
