Mary's friends (Afterward)

This group of people is mentioned in chapter four when Mary is slowly getting used to her husband’s disappearance. The friends try to encourage Mary to leave Lyng, they think that a change of place would be healthy for her. Mary declines and the friends assume that she does so because she thinks or hopes, that her husband will return one day (Wharton 366).
