Maria (The Pretext)

Maria is the Irish housemaid of the Ransoms. In the short story she wears a housemaid dress with a skirt (Lewis, 1968, p. 635) which is the only description of her external appearance. She only has a few sentences to say, once when Mrs. Margaret Ransom and Mr. Robert Ransom have a conversation and Mr. Robert Ransom asks her to call Guy Dawnish and another time when she opens the door for Lady Caroline Duckett.
