Further names: Juliet, pupil, daughter, child
Juliet Deering is the daughter of Mrs. Deering and Vincent Deering. She is the pupil of Lizzie West for two years but doesn’t have much interest in learning but more so in the latest gossip. She likes to listen to “[…] the anecdotes that Céleste and Suzanne brought back form the market and the library.” (Lewis 178) Her mother doesn’t take care of her and this is the reason for her strange behavior, according to Mr. Deering. One month after her mother left for St. Raphaël to visit relations, Juliet and her father follow her. After her mother dies Juliet has to stay “[…] with the relations […]” (Lewis 182). When Lizzie and Vincent marry, Lizzie convinces Vincent to get his daughter to live with them, so she can pursue her education.
