Saint Cloud is a suburb of Paris, located in the Ȋle-de-France region and belongs to the Hauts-de-Seine department. Its population is around 29,200 (2005). It lies on the left side of the Seine River. This suburb is most famous for the Parc de Saint-Cloud and the château of Saint-Cloud which was destroyed in the Franco-Prussian War in 1870. The name Saint Cloud derives from Clodoal (522-560), the grandson of Clovis, founder of the monastery originally called Novigentum.
