Looking at the Atlantic Ocean’s features, one can see that the ocean is S-shaped, consequently narrow compared to its length. The surface area of the Atlantic Ocean covers an area of about 31,830,000 square miles. With all its connected seas the Atlantic Ocean covers a surface area of 41,100,000 square miles. Its deepest point lies at 27,493 feet and it has an average depth of 10,925 feet. Between Cape Horn and the Cape of Good Hope, the ocean approaches the Antarctica covering an area which is nearly 4,000 mile wide. Many rivers flow into the Atlantic Ocean including the St. Lawrence, the Mississippi, the Orinoco, the Amazon, the Río de la Plata, the Congo, the Niger, the Loire, the Rhine and the Elbe leading to the fact that the Atlantic Ocean is the largest drainage area; although, it is not the world’s largest ocean.
