The Statue of Liberty is a famous monument in the New York Harbor of New York City. Originally, it was named “Liberty Enlightening the World” and was a gift from France. On October 28, 1886; the Statue of Liberty was unveiled at the Bedloe’s Island, which is nowadays called Liberty Island. Back then, the Statue of Liberty was the tallest structure in New York City with a height of 151 feet sitting enthroned on an 89-feet pedestal. The statues shows a woman holding a torch in her right hand and a tablet with the date of the Declaration of Independence (July 4, 1776) in her left hand. The sculpture was designed by Frédéric August, who got help from the great engineer Gustave Eiffel. For many people immigrants to the USA the Statue of Liberty represented their first intimation of a new life. The statue promotes freedom.
