Psyche derives from the Greek language and means “Soul”. Psyche is a beautiful princess in the Greek mythology in Lucius Apuleius book The Golden Ass in “The Tale of Cupid and Psyche”. She is of such great beauty that even the goddess Venus gets jealous. Consequently, she demands of her son Cupid to make Psyche fall in love with a monster. However, when Cupid sees Psyche, he falls in love with her and hides her in a hidden palace. At night, he comes to visit and spend the night with her. Although Psyche had to promise Cupid not to look at his face, Psyche cannot restrain herself from looking at his face one night and there she finds out that it is not a monster she is in love with, but a beautiful man. She takes an oil lamp to see in the darkness and due to an unfortunate coincidence; she drops oil on his shoulder waking him. Cupid is disappointed and flees. Psyche is left alone and starts to look all over for her love Cupid; but she falls into the hands of Venus, who gives her challenging tasks. Psyche passes all of them and in the end Cupid finds her. Owing to the fact that Cupid is a god he can only marry an immortal goddess as well. Thus, Jupiter makes Psyche immortal and Psyche and Cupid get married.
