Parapet

A parapet is a protective barrier along the edge of a bridge, roof or balcony. It provides more safety for people. In the past parapets were used for castles and town-walls. The origin of the word could be French or Italian “parapetto” and its first use was in the 16^th century. “Parapetto” is composed of “para”, which means “protecting”, and “petto”, which means “chest”. “Petto” may arise from the Latin word “pectus”.
