Set in Halberstadt during the summer of 1990, just after the fall of the Berlin Wall, Two to One follows the quick-witted trio of Maren (Sandra Hüller), Robert (Max Riemelt), and Volker (Ronald Zehrfeld) as they stumble upon hidden millions of DDR Marks in an old bunker—currency now on the brink of obsolescence 

Facing the frantic rush before the currency conversion deadline, the trio—and eventually their community—devises a scheme to swap the worthless money for goods and profit off unsuspecting Western buyers

Inspired by the true story of the “Schatz von Halberstadt,” where DDR banknotes had been secretly stored in a tunnel, the film captures a snapshot of raw ingenuity, desperation, and nostalgic solidarity that marked that chaotic moment in German history
