WM Cabooses in the Park

There are 5 original Western Maryland cabooses on display in the city of Hagerstown.  

Three of these can be found at the Hagerstown Railroad Museum in City Park.

Western Maryland Caboose 1850

1850 is in the worst shape of our 3 WM cabooses.  It needs some steel work before it gets a cosmetic restoration.  The damage to 1850 could partly be in part to the fact that it was one of two prototype WM cabooses(See Dwight Jones' WM Caboose book for more details).  

Western Maryland Caboose 1865

1865 is in much better shape than 1850.  1865 needs some minor interior work but the exterior

just needs to be prepped and painted. 

Western Maryland Caboose 1885

1885 is in the best shape of all the Western Maryland cabooses at the Hagerstown

Railroad Museum.  In 2009 1885 was cosmetically restored to it's original Fireball scheme appearance.

Unfortunately there are some discrepancies from the original scheme..  1885 is also somewhat of a prototype.  It was modified to be more like an

N&W caboose inside for the comfort of conductors on the Alpha Jet trains.
