Middle school athletics is an extension of the educational experience. Participation in athletics is an opportunity to develop character, responsibility, teamwork, sportsmanship, and respect.
The development of the student comes before the outcome of the game.
All coaches and student-athletes are expected to represent themselves, their team, and their school with pride and integrity.
Model good character by demonstrating respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, trustworthiness, and good citizenship.
Put students first by prioritizing their physical, emotional, and academic well-being.
Act professionally and treat students, families, officials, opposing coaches, administrators, and spectators with dignity and respect.
Maintain appropriate boundaries with students and follow all school, and district policies.
Support academics and recognize that athletics is part of the overall educational program.
Know and teach the rules of the sport and compete fairly without attempting to circumvent the spirit or letter of the rules.
Promote sportsmanship by modeling self-control, respecting officials' decisions, and teaching athletes to respect opponents and teammates.
Support contest officials and refrain from arguing with or publicly criticizing officials.
Set a positive tone by demonstrating courtesy and respect before, during, and after contests.
Communicate appropriately with students, families, and school personnel and address concerns professionally.
Promote positive team behavior and take responsibility for the conduct of the team.
Represent the school with pride at practices, contests, on social media, and in the community.
Report safety or misconduct concerns in accordance with school and district procedures.
Show respect to teammates, coaches, opponents, officials, teachers, and spectators.
Demonstrate good character by being trustworthy, responsible, fair, caring, and a positive member of the school community.
Put academics first by attending school, completing assignments, and making a genuine effort in the classroom.
Be responsible by arriving on time, being prepared, following team rules, and taking care of school and team equipment.
Give their best effort at practices and competitions and encourage their teammates to do the same.
Practice good sportsmanship by following the rules, accepting officials' decisions, and treating opponents with respect.
Maintain appropriate behavior at practices, games, locker rooms, school activities, and team events.
Use social media and technology responsibly and never use them to bully, threaten, embarrass, or disrespect others.
Follow health and safety expectations and report injuries or concerns to a coach or appropriate adult.
Represent the school positively by making responsible choices on and off the field/court.
Accept responsibility for their actions and be willing to learn from mistakes.
