Marking and Clearing the Existing Track

Starting in 2009 the Friends of Wellington Park commenced installing marker poles on the Thark Ridge route mainly from the saddle westward along the ridge to where it meets the old fire trail leading to Mount Montagu and Montagu Thumbs. The work also involved clearing overgrowing vegetation. The poles had been dropped in several batches at intervals along the ridge by Parks & Wildlife using a helicopter a couple of years prior, but for various reasons had not been installed.

The first part of the track from Big Bend went over ground that was not suited to walker traffic and had degraded and three reroutes were undertaken between 2012 and 2015

See the pages for each of the three reroutes done.
