I started teaching in a brick and mortar school in 2015 and at UCA in 2018. I received my Bachelors in Elementary Education from Utah Valley University and my Masters in Mathematics Education from Western Governors University. It is because of my children that I finished my degree and became a teacher. I have a small family with a husband and two children who are my world. We live in central Utah and love it here because of the beautiful canyons and outside opportunities. My family and I enjoy camping, fishing, four-wheeling, and spending time together in nature.
Working for Utah Connections Academy has been a great experience. I have grown as a teacher in this setting because I have to think about teaching in new and innovative ways. Teaching students in person is very different than teaching them online. However, online teaching is just as rewarding as in person teaching. While teaching at Utah Connections Academy, I am able to help students in small groups, one on one settings, and also learn more about their family in the process. Communication with parents is important in education and at this school, we have the ability to communicate more frequently than in a brick and mortar school because parents are more involved in their child's learning this way.
I currently teach 4th-6th grade Elementary Math Interventions. This involves working with students in small groups or one on one. Mathematics education is such an essential part of elementary education and I feel privileged to help students that struggle with understanding it. By using real-world applications of math and repeated instruction, I have seen students grasp concepts that they otherwise could not.
I am also the Elementary Mathematics Instructional Coach. In this role, I help my colleagues improve their math lessons by offering suggestions and support as needed. Collaboration is a huge part of our elementary team that helps us become better teachers.
I encourage anyone that is considering Utah Connections Academy as a school for their child to take the chance because you won't be disappointed. We have excellent teachers and administrators that are here to help your child succeed.
