December Pack Meeting - Downs Food Pantry Drive

January Committee Meeting

WHERE: Downs United Methodist Church.

WHO: All current committee members, parent volunteers, and interested parents/guardians.

WEAR: Clothes.

During committee meetings we usually review recent events, plan upcoming activities, and discuss a variety of Pack 3953 matters.

January Pack Meeting and Pinewood Derby Workshop

WHEN: Thursday, January 19th, 6:00pm (third Thursday of the month at 6:00pm).

WHERE: Dooley Park Pavillion

WHO: All scouts are welcome and encouraged to come and attend, as well as family and friends.

WEAR: Class A uniforms for Tigers through AOLs. Class B scout shirts for Lions. Leaders please wear leadership uniforms.

VOLUNTEER: If you or someone you know are able to provide relevant tools for the workshop, please notify the Pinewood Derby coordinator (John Hurliman, hurliman@hotmail.com or via Band)

We'll be meeting at the Dooley Park Pavillion this month so that kids can work on Pinewood Derby cars. This is a great opportunity to build or work on your Pinewood Derby car using shared power tools (e.g. scroll saw, sander, drill press, etc.) and getting tips from others. Parents are responsible for the safety of their scouts around the power tools. Boy Scouts and other volunteers will also be on-hand to help with designing and building your Pinewood Derby car.

Pinewood Derby Setup

WHEN: Friday, January 27th 2023 @ 7:00pm - 9:00pm.

WHERE: Downs United Methodist Church

WHO: Scouting parents and leaders.

VOLUNTEER: Please notify the Pinewood Derby coordinator (John Hurliman, hurliman@hotmail.com or via Band) if you can help. We need parents to help assemble the track, set up tables and chairs, and more.

WEAR: No dress code, but please bring and wear masks based on state guidelines.

Pinewood Derby Race

WHEN: Saturday, January 28th, 2023 @ 12:00am - 3:00pm. Set-up, Friday, January 27th @ 7:00 - 9:00pm.

WHERE: Downs United Methodist Church

WHO: All scouting families are welcome and encouraged to come and attend.

VOLUNTEER: We need your help to make the Pinewood Derby succeed! Please notify the Pinewood Derby coordinator (John Hurliman, hurliman@hotmail.com or via Band) to assist with car check-in, pit crew, race coordination and more!

WEAR: Class A uniforms for Tigers through AOLs. Class B scout shirts for Lions. Leaders please wear leadership uniforms. Please bring and wear masks based on state guidelines.

Schedule:

12:00 – 12:45pm – Pinewood Derby check-in and car modification (if needed)

· Boy Scouts will begin selling concessions at 12:00 noon and will close concessions near the end of the race.

12:45 – 1:00pm – Best Looking Car voting and race preparation

· Scouts will vote on their favorite car from each den (do not vote on your own car)

1:00 – 2:00pm – PINEWOOD DERBY

2:00 – 2:10pm – Race tabulation; scouts can retrieve their cars at this time

2:10 – 2:30pm – Award presentation and pictures

2:30 – 3:00pm – Derby teardown and cleanup
