2020

The Twelfth Symposium on Writing Centers in Asia was held on Sunday, February 23rd, 2020, at Osaka University (Suita Campus) in Osaka, Japan. The plenary speaker was Judy Noguchi, Professor Emerita of Kobe Gakuin University. Her talk was titled “Thoughts on professional writing for the mid-21st century: ESP, DDL and STEAM.” There were research presentations sessions and poster presentations on a variety of topics related to writing pedagogy. This was the first time the symposium was held outside of the Kanto region.

2019

The Eleventh Symposium on Writing Centers in Asia was held on Sunday, February 24, 2019, at Sophia University in Tokyo. The plenary speaker was Brian Paltridge of the University of Sydney. He spoke on “Genre and Second Language Academic Writing: Influences and Developments.” There were also more than twenty research presentations on a variety of topics related to writing pedagogy.

2018

The Tenth Symposium on Writing Centers in Asia was held on Friday, March 9th, 2018, at Toyo University in Tokyo. The presentation schedule is available here, and the full program, including abstracts, is here. 2017

The Ninth Symposium on Writing Centers in Asia was held on Monday, March 6th, 2017, at International Christian University in Tokyo. The original announcement and call for papers is here, and the final program is here.

2016

Tsuda College, in conjunction with the Writing Centers Association of Japan and the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS), hosted the Eighth Symposium on Writing Centers in Asia on March 5th, 2016. The theme that year was Writing Centers Across Languages and Cultures. The full program (PDF) is available for download here.

2015

The Seventh Symposium on Writing Centers in Asia was held at Tokyo International University on March 7, with the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) as co-organizer. The program is here. The plenary speaker, Professor Kyoko Oi of Chiba University (and now of Seisen University), spoke on "Looking back and Looking forward: What Writing Teachers can Learn from Contrastive Rhetoric Research."

2014

The Sixth Symposium on Writing Centers in Asia was held at J. F. Oberlin University at Machida Campus on March 8. The program is here.

Kansai University and Tsuda College sponsored a symposium on writing education with cooperation from WCAJ on November 8. Details in Japanese are available here.

Toyo University held an event titled “Role of Writing Centers in Japanese Universities” on November 22. A poster with details is available here.
