I mentioned that we need to transition our students from being "liabilities to assets" before we place them. The skills that we need to teach before placement can be found at the virtual campus - item #03 Basic Skills.
Response to question: What topics should I bring forward at my next advisory board craft committee meeting
1. What are the most important “soft skills” you are looking for in an intern or new employee?
2. What are the specific job related skills you are looking for in an intern or new employee?
3. Would you like to help us create a “Career and Workforce Readiness” badge which would identify those students who are ready to work?
4. How is this trade area changing? What new concepts should we teach in our classes?
5. Would you be interested in “mentoring” a student about this career area?
6. Would you be interested in visiting the classroom as a “career and content expert” for the purpose of adding real world examples into our projects?
7. What is the hiring process for your company or union? What time of year? Do you want resumes? What do you want on a resume?
8. Are you available for field trips, job interview practice and a career fair?
9. Would you like to demonstrate a process to the class?
10. Would you like to come in and speak about safety training?
11. Will you help us create an “authentic project based learning” assignment for our students. This activity includes:
a. Define task – by adding the word authentic we are referring to a specific solution your partner company is looking for.
b. Research by students in class and at corporation via field trip
c. Validating potential solutions
d. Presentation in small groups to the corporation. SEE ATTACHMENT. PBL Resources
