Amateur radio in-person exams in Garland, Texas
Yes, we are again doing in-person ham radio exams in Garland, Tx.
In-person exams have the following requirements:
$15 is the current test fee. We prefer the exact amount in cash, but a check made out to the ARRL/VEC is also ok. If you are under 18, the fee is currently $5.
A government photo id (drivers license preferred). If under 18, a parent with photo id and school id or something with your name and address is ok.
If you currently have a license, please bring it.
Pre-register for your exam at https://hamstudy.org/sessions/WB9ZPH. You will need to get an FRN (FCC registration number) which is required. And it will allow our software to have all the information it needs to pre-fill out the paperwork needed. Note: If you are upgrading, this number is on your current license.
Note: In-person exams are taken on an electronic tablet that we provide for this purpose. However, if you prefer, you can take your test using a paper exam and answer sheet. We also have calculators for you to borrow if needed. no, you cannot use your phone as a calculator.
Also note that after the FCC receives your test results, it will contact you to pay the $35 FCC application fee prior to issuing your new license. This fee does not affect upgrades.

Testing location in Garland:
Garland area WB9ZPH VE in-person test sessions are held at the Freeman Heights Baptist Church (1120 N. Garland). Parking is in the back of the church and there is plenty of parking area here. There will be signs pointing you to the classroom where we hold the testing session.
The doors normally open at 9:30am and testing sessions start by 10am. If you get there early and the doors are open and the signs are up, that means part of the team is here early. Come in and say hello.
