The WBC was founded in 1997 as a nonprofit organization to advance the knowledge and experience of its members in metabolic bone diseases. Currently the WBC has about 100 active members. The educational events of the WBC provide a forum for learning, exchange and dissemination of information and ideas, foster education and public awareness, improve the standard of care for patients with osteoporosis, and increase the skills of professionals involved in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of osteoporosis. Programs also alert physicians to the ongoing development in osteoporosis research and treatment. Lectures serve important unmet educational needs of our members, by providing up to date information at the local level on disease mechanisms, diagnosis, and treatment, and a forum for case discussions and problem solving with internationally recognized experts in the field. The goal of WBC is to address gaps in competence and practice performance in the management of osteoporosis and other metabolic bone diseases through theoretical and practical insights provided by internationally recognized experts in the field.
