Greetings! Welcome to my website. Please allow me to introduce myself....
Primarily, I teach and research health and communication, but I also have started my own business, Four Paths Communication, helping professionals in health and science fields become better writers and speakers.
As a teacher/scholar, I study relationships among health, communication, and culture at the University of South Carolina, Upstate. I earned my PhD from Indiana University and my master's from the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania. I also earned a postdoctoral graduate certificate in health communication from the Arnold School for Public Health and the School of Journalism at the University of South Carolina.
I developed a Health Communication minor at USC Upstate which I currently coordinate by updating course selections and creating new courses.
My research has been published in The Journal of Medical Humanities, Health: An Interdisciplinary Journal for the Social Study of Health, Illness and Medicine, and other books and journals. Most recently, I edited a book on communicative aspects of non-suicidal self-injury for which I also wrote two chapters. I regularly review manuscripts for Health and for Qualitative Research in Medicine & Healthcare.
Subjects that I teach include health narrative, communication research methods, and health communication messaging.
