Junior Optimist
Optimism builds resilience. It allows individuals to create and achieve personal goals. Optimistic people feel more in control of situations and have higher self-esteem. Pessimism influences us to take disappointment and rejections personally. Optimism helps us move up and stay up…together.
Meetings are FUN. Every agenda includes a game, ice breaker and/or team challenge component.
We have three competitions each year: Oratorical, Essay and Video and the prize money and scholarship opportunities are awesome.
We support leadership, (each group elects team officers) personal development.
Each group completes at least one community service project.
All meetings are accredited to count toward community service hours. The meetings are conveniently scheduled right after school- once per month.
Optimists host and participate in many Farmington area events such as parades, leadership events and community wide service events.
Students lead and run the meetings. It’s a great way to be heard and make a difference in your school and community.
Participation in the group looks great on college applications and resumes.
