History

In February 2012 Warmley Short Mat Bowls Club was founded with nine players, unfortunately two of these original members have now stopped playing due to health reasons.

It took over three months, searching and looking at different venues, to find a venue which could store our equipment and cater for our needs. Warmley War Memorial Community Centre was the most favourable of venues.

Now that we had a place to play we had to go in search for the equipment to use. We managed to get two mats and fenders, plus jacks and homemade score boards from a club in Maidstone.

On February 15th 2012 we laid out the mats for the first time to try and find the best playing positions, and still to this day we find it very complex to deliver. All good fun to get it right!!!

February 29 2012 we opened our doors to the public. To this day I still cannot believe my eyes as we had a full house on our first session. At present we are almost full for both sessions with 3 new mats, new fenders ,new jacks, new score boards, and a two mat roller all purchased from our membership and session fees.

We are proud at Warmley to have an ESMBA qualified coach at the club, which gives us the chance to offer one to one instructions to our new members and support all of our club members at various coaching sessions throughout the year.

We try to have a casual, laid back approach here at Warmley, where we try to get all of our members involved in the running and upkeep of the club.

We currently have two teams in a local league, of which five of our members are County players, but we have struggled to maintain our 2 teams for league matches, so it would appear that we shall only have 1 team in the league next season as we are unable to get enough commited players to form 2 teams. A team name has yet to be decided, so watch this space!!

Hopefully we can, at sometime, bring bowlers in who will be more commited and of course good enough to form a second team as we have a great set up, a friendly atmosphere and some very good players, of which some play and have played for Avon county..we also have in house competitions...singles...pairs..triples..fours and coaching sessions...
