Curriculum

Walter Panciera, Ph.D.in Economic and Social history (1991), is full professor in Modern History in the Departement of Historical and Geographical Sciences of Padua University (DISSGeA). He was Researcher in Modern History from 1998 to 2001 and "associated" professor from 2001 to 2011. Coordinator of the Ph.D. school in Historical and Historical-religious studies of Padua University; member of the Directional Board of the Graduate School of historical, geographical, anthropological studies of the universities of Verona, Padua and Venice. In 2004-2005 he was Secretary of the National Commission for the judgments of role confirmation of Researchers; member of the editorial board of the electronic magazine 'History of Venice' and of the scientific committee of the publishing series 'Early Modern'-Unicopli, Mailand and 'Quaderni'-Mediterranea ricerche storiche, Palermo. Founder member of SISEM (Italian society of historians of the modern age); elected in its Executive Board for the period 2008-2011, is now a emeber of its Educational Commission. In the scientific field he worked initially on the analysis of economic and social structures in the XVIth-XIXth centuries, especially proto-industrialization, also regarding the agriculture - industry relationships. Later, his investigations included crucial cultural aspects related to the economic-social evolution and were gradually extended to political and institutional issues of the Modern State, with particular reference to the Republic of Venice. Studies on military and technological history, on frontiers and boundaries completed a pattern of researches that has touched many aspects of the “ancien régime” society, recently added with reflections and contributions on the teaching of history and the training of teachers. His publications reflect a constant commitment in the exploitation of the archival sources of the north-eastern italian area for the modern age.
