BIO - Billie Hwang, coach

My name is Billie Hwang and currently the coach/founder of Volleyballogy Clinics. I have eight years of coaching experience. My coaching philosophy is simple, learn to love the game of volleyball. This includes not only the physical aspects in terms of skills and abilities, but the mental as well, court presence and attitude. I teach volleyball in a relaxed environment which includes plenty of fun and laughter. I'm a hands on coach who gives feedback during the clinics as the tasks are being performed. This way, players know what to correct at that point rather than at the end of a session when they can't recall what they did incorrectly.

My volleyball position of choice is the "ball distributor" or the more traditional title of setter. I played 3 years at Bothell High School as the varsity setter receiving many accolades including All KingCo Honorable Mention (sophomore), First Team All Kingco (junior, senior), and Seattle Times Prep Athlete of the Week. My collegiate experience is different in that I played on the University of Washington Men's club team. Since then, I continue to play competitively on the top ranked women's team around the region. We attend the National tournament each year and notably placed 3rd in A and 1st in AA in the Bronze divison. I also had the opportunity to tryout for the USA National Team. Most recently, I've been selected to set for the new Premier Volleyball League Seattle team. This is a new grassroots professsional volleyball league that started this year in the United States.

As much as I love volleyball, my other passion in life is science and medicine. I completed my Masters of Public Health and currently completing my Doctorate of Health Science, with future aspirations for medical school after my competitive playing years are done. I'm a bonafide science nerd doing research looking at T cells in bone marrow and solid organ transplantation at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. And now in training at the University of Washington as a co-PI. I truly LOVE science and try to generate as much enthusiasm as I can from players during practices and clinics.

Thanks for taking the time to read this!
