Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU)

Founded in 1966, Veer Narmad South Gujarat University is a government university situated in Surat, Gujarat, India. Originating from the collaborative efforts of educationists and regional societies, the university commenced operations in 1966. It progressively shifted administrative and academic functions to its 210-acre campus by 1976 and 1981, respectively. In 2004, the university was named after Narmadashankar Lalshankar Dave. Reflecting its commitment to regional growth and excellence, the university has been accredited 'B++' in 2022. VNSGU excels in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research, and extension activities. Spanning seven districts and two Union Territories, the university offers 95 programs across 12 faculties, enrolling over two lakh students a year


DEPARTMENT OF BIOSCIENCES

Established in 1977, the Department of Biosciences is a premier academic and research institute in South Gujarat. Offering M.Sc. and Ph.D. courses with specializations in Botany, Zoology, and Microbiology, the department also runs a self-financed Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology. Boasting 7 full-time faculties, the department excels in Microbiome, Bioinformatics, Ecogenomics, Toxicology, Medicinal Plant, and Environmental pollution research. Notably, the department established an ICMRapproved RT-PCR Laboratory in 2021 which has contributed society significantly by carrying out COVID-19 detection tests. With ongoing research projects and over 100 published papers in the last five years, the department strives to be a hub of academic excellence
