A combination wrench is a device that is used to grip and provide mechanical advantage in applying torque to turn objects - especially rotational nuts, bolts and fasteners.
This works aims to demonstrate a simple static structural analysis on a combination wrench to demonstrate the stress and strain induced in it when a force is applied on one end while gripping a body without any slip.
CAD model of the combination wrench designed using SolidWorks.
The CAD model is imported in COMSOL Multiphysics and an unstructured fine tetrahedral meshing is done.
The problem is solved for static structural analysis to visualize the stress and strain. The image demonstrates the vonMises Stress in the wrench when a force is applied on one end along with the displacement of the wrench from its original geometry.
The strain induced in the wrench is visualized in the image shown along with the defamation of the geometry from the baseline model.
The animation demonstrates the simulation of the wrench while showing the stress induced upon force application on one end along with the shape deformation.
