Eligibility certificate from MCI (Medical Council of India) for Indian Students is required (For getting admission to Graduate Medical Course in a Foreign Medical Institution u/s 12 and 13(4B) of Indian Medical Council Act, 1956). The Health Ministry has made it clear that any Indian candidate wishing to pursue medical education from any foreign destination (on or after May, 2018) will have to qualify the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) from now on.
Earlier this month, the ministry had made NEET compulsory for students who wish to get admission to government and private medical colleges in India. However, now the government has applied the same for only Indian students living in Indian or abroad who want to study medical from foreign universities (MBBS/BDS).
An official statement was issued by the ministry reading, “It is informed that the regulations prescribe that the Indian citizens or Overseas Citizen of India intending to obtain primary medical qualification from any medical institution outside India, on or after May 2018, shall have to mandatorily qualify the NEET for admission to MBBS course abroad.”
“The decision will be implemented prospectively i.e. from May 2018. Thus, students who have already taken admission under current regulations to pursue primary medical course by taking Eligibility Certificate from MCI are exempted from qualifying NEET.”
