ViduiVariations is intended as a repository for sources and materials related to the Jewish Deathbed Confessional (Vidui).
My purpose in creating a site focused on the Jewish Deathbed Confessional is to encourage interest and learning about the Vidui. I hope it will serve to increase understanding and accessibility of the Vidui, and that it may be a source of inspiration and comfort.
Rabbi Danya Ruttenberg's The Kiddushin Variations inspired the name for this project. Thank you to Rabbi Ruttenberg for her work and her permission.
I am grateful for the support and encouragement I have received from many people over the years. Rabbi Stuart Kelman has been a steadfast mentor and friend, lending his wisdom and encouragement from my first explorations and writing on Vidui through many and varied collaborations. Thank you, Stu-your special gifts truly sustained this project. Rachel Brodie, another intrepid educator, mentor, and friend, envisioned an online home where the contents of endless folders and files on Vidui could live. Thank you, Rachel, for your awesome ideas and our amazing conversations. My heartfelt gratitude belongs to Rabbi Samuel Chiel, z''l, to Rabbi Yonatan Cohen, Maharat Victoria Sutton and to my beloved family for each gift of inspiration, love, and connection.
