My name is Jorge Vélez-Juarbe and I am Associate Curator of Marine Mammals (living and extinct) at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County.
My research focuses on:
1) The morphology, systematics, and biology of fossil and extant marine mammals. Particularly, understanding the dynamics of ancient communities.
2) Origins of the Greater Antillean flora and fauna. Particularly interested in the past diversity & timing of colonization of the islands by animals and plants.
Wrapping up our biggest find of our recent expedition to the Dominican Republic (Spring 2023).
