Let's Play The Legend of Zelda (NES) Second Quest - Part 5: But These Go To Eleven

Everything moves so damn fast and there's so many freaking enemies. And plenty of those red bubbles to go around. Damn it.

Good lord, there hasn't been a single fun room in this dungeon yet! Bah!

Definitely go to the left (by walking through the wall) at this old man's place. Going to the right is a one way trip and an absolute waste of time.

This is a critical moment here. Instead of killing patra and moving the blocks to take the stairs, you must walk through the wall to the left to obtain an otherwise easily missable item.

Notice this is not the room patra was in, but one to the left of it.

Excellent, now we have the red ring.

However, since the voters decided we needed to get the red ring before the silver arrow, this is going to be slightly painful -- as the red ring was on the way to Ganon, and the silver arrow requires us to take a different path from the start...

Ugh, not only am I completely lost right now, I got nailed by one of these stupid red bubbles and lost my sword!

Shit.

On top of being lost, I'm having to fight with these stupid blocked passage rooms. All I want to do is go DOWN, damn it!

Finally, starting to make my way back south... But still lost. And without a sword.

On the plus side, there has been a definite lack of stairwells, which would have made this level even more cruel.

Okay, after running through here, I finally have gotten my sword power back. So let's go back and tangle with Patra.

Walk through more walls, fight more wizzrobes, and run into yet another patra. Just great.

This is the one dungeon of the whole game that I just don't know that well, and it is really showing. I am getting my ass handed to me right now.

Well I have been up down and all around on this map... But it looks like I need to quaff my red potion right now.

Okay, after killing another patra to get the map, I have figured that heading for the eye on the map is our best bet. And it looks like we have uncovered a staircase...

Finally. I thought I'd never find the silver arrow, and Lunk was going to end up a skeleton husk in some forgotten corner of Ganon's lair.

Well isn't that special. I go up a room from the silver arrow, take the stairs, and where do I wind up?

One way tripped back to the start of the level! Also, notice the lovely door that is actually a wall when you pass through it.

Also, it's nice to see that the map is actually what appears to be Ganon's face. A nice touch.

And we wander... And wander...

It's sort of like Lord of the Rings. There's just an awful lot of walking.

And finally, we get back up here. So we take a left...

So this time, we kill patra and take this set of stairs (we previously walked through the wall to the left in this room to get the red ring).

Alright, a one way stairwell to the North-East corner. This is good, we are close to Ganon. Bomb a hole to the right and we can continue on.

Kill one more patra so we can open the door to our right (and do not walk through the wall to the North unless you want to take a one way stairwell trip back to some earlier point in the level).

Just like in the previous quest, stab at him until he turns brown -- then nail him with a silver arrow.

Grab the Triforce from his ash pile and continue on so that we can save Princess Zelda yet again.

Well, we finally saved the princess and... She couldn't even get Lunk's name right! Unbelievable.

That Link, getting free credit for everything. He's like Mario when Lunk is Luigi, I swear.

Hey, doesn't that grey brick trim look like it was ripped from a Mario game? Because I sure don't recall anything looking like that in this Zelda game...

At any rate, with that we have completed the second quest! Thanks for reading.
