I know it's dangerous to gamble, but Lunk seems to be unable to lose for some reason. And going to gamble with only 10 or 20 rupees is great, in case you get nailed by the -40, you're not out much of anything.
And the only 100 rupee secret to everyone in the second quest. Which bites, because money is harder to attain in the second quest (just like everything is harder, really). There were actually three of these 100 rupee secrets in the first quest.
And another overworld heart! They're a bit harder to obtain in the second quest, and located a lot further from your starting area.
Fortunately the good old Power Bracelet is in the exact same spot, and the warp stairs that will take us around the map are as well. This eases up the difficulty a bit.
Unfortunately, by the time you get into this secret passage to get The Letter, you pretty much already need medicine because these blue and red guys have beaten you within an inch of your life. Not only do they hit like trucks, but they throw their swords, too!
How old man, has anyone ever told you that you live in a bad neighborhood? Perhaps you should, like, move...
Not sure why you gave up your first quest ocean front property for this mountainous craphole, myself, but to each his own...
On the path to where Level 9 was in the first quest, there is a whistle accessible heart container here. I have to say that this is one of the best hidden heart pieces in the game, I believe. Probably one of the last ones I found as a child.
Just grabbing some arrows for the bow that we will get eventually, and taking the warp stairs back to the east.
Gamble your way to greatness, Lunk.
And on top of another success at gambling, we should probably pick up the monster bait, as we are sure to need it later as well.
I should point out that this game seems to be totally RNG based luck, and odds are you will often lose heavily and it will make you rage. Beware if you try to do gambling in this game (and real life, for that matter, lol). Lunk really needs to get his addiction checked out. I wonder if Hyrule has some form of Gambler's Anonymous?
And hidden right on the path to where Level 5 was in the previous quest, we find Level 4!
The trick is you need the Power Bracelet to move the rock.
Ugh. Two screens in and I hate this level already.
These red bubbles are evil. They take your sword away. And you cannot use it again until you either drink a potion or are hit by a blue bubble.
Fantastic. Forced to fight the split-into-three Digdogger.
Mini-bosses sure make their way around in this adventure.
Aquamentus? Not exactly the type of mini-boss I expect to see, but he's easy to destroy.
Oooh the Magic Book. A pretty worthless item, but in the interest of collecting everything, we'll take this as well.
Immediately after we get the magic book, if you walk through the north wall of that dungeon room, you enter this craftily hidden bomb upgrade room!
Only a crazy person would turn down extra bombs in this game.
Whoa, I totally forgot that this room existed. And there will be more of them in later dungeons, too. Fortunately, I have enough money on hand to pay him off. Because giving him a heart container is, in my opinion, NEVER a viable option.
Well, that is convenient. Take the stairs, and if you get hit by a red bubble, immediately walk all the way back to touch a blue bubble.
[Editor's note: You too will come to hate the red bubbles with a burning passion when you play this quest.]
So the same creature we had as a mini-boss in this level doubles as the actual boss of this level? With the addition of those stupid fireball shooting statues?
Well, it is harder, so I guess it's legit. At any rate, another heart container!
And, in what is another one of the best secrets in the Second Quest, we walk through the wall to the north of the Triforce room (because grabbing the triforce piece would teleport us out, and we need to get the other item from this dungeon).
Four fireball statues. Three Dodongos. One heart. No medicine. Final Destination.
Suffice it to say, this fight was a real treat...
And at the end of this three room run, we get our hands on the raft! Which should allow us access to another dungeon as well as an extra overworld heart container.
As a side note, do NOT take the door to the left from the raft room. It is a one-way door, and if you haven't gotten the triforce already, you will kick yourself.
Alright, triforce shard 2 of 8.
[Editor's note: At this point, a vote was called on whether to go to Level 1, Level 3, Level 5, or to go get another heart container.]
I love you gambler!
[Editor's note: For all you reno911 fans out there.]
There is a handy shop one screen to the right from the starting location.
Red medicine is a must have for most of the second quest, or at least if you're rusty like me anyway.
Alright, another overworld heart container down. All I need now is the ladder to get the 5th one, but we're a ways off from that right now.
And of course, we need to get ourselves a big shield. Because getting hit by fireballs and wizzrobe blasts is really annoying.
