And one more time, Lunk fuels his gambling addiction...
For as much luck as I've been having, I'm surprised the game hasn't accused me of cheating. Or card counting (which is like cheating only if you consider using probability and statistics to even the odds in your favor cheating).
Level 6 can be a bit rough, so we are definitely picking up some red medicine before we set out.
It doesn't matter which entrance you use, they both lead to the same place. Which makes me wonder if originally they had planned a "second entrance" to this dungeon originally... That would bring you in somewhere else in the level. Nothing but conjecture on my part, of course.
Wizzrobes. Thousands of them.
Also why Level 6 is pretty much my least favorite level in the game. Because I hate wizzrobes that much.
Oh glorious stopwatch, how I love you so. If ever there was a place to get it, almost any room in this level would do.
Ugh, already forced to use my medicine once already, and not looking god for me at all... But, on the upside, I did get my hands on the Magic Rod!
Burn baby, burn.
Aim at the eyes of Gohma. Except there's only one. Deep 6 this one just like the one in Level 8 by dropping an arrow in it's face when it's eye is open. Piece of cake.
[Editor's note: I'd like to point out that you can see how the map storage of The Legend of Zelda works. See the blue map in the corner (beneath "Level 6")? Well, notice at the bottom there, you can make out the shape of Level 3 - Manji? You'd notice the same thing if you go back to where I got the map in Level 7 and notice that you can see where part of the shape of Level 8 can be seen in the map. There used to be a great Iwata Ask's with original concept drawings from the game and showing how the levels were stored in system memory, but it looks like the old link I had is broken. But there is still a gamefaqs topic talking about it (see: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/563433-the-legend-of-zelda/53362122 ).]
And that is 8 out of 8 shards collected; so time to go to Level 9 and face Ganon!
[Editor's note: A small vote was held on what order to collect the Silver Arrow and Red Ring.]
Awesome. 16 hearts. 8 pieces of triforce. All of the items (the blank spot was where I had Monster Bait, but no reason to buy anymore at this point) so far as well.
Ugh, I hate these guys. They throw their sword and it hurts, badly.
The absolute North-West corner of the map. In the first quest, this area is meaningless... However, we will have to come back here during our run of the Second Quest, as there this is actually the entrance to Level 9.
A not so subtle hint?
Spectacle Rock. Interesting name, eh? One well placed bomb, and the path to Level 9 is open.
Whoa, the music has totally changed for this level. Creepy.
Also, the room with the black background and fire? If you come here without all 8 shards of Triforce, an old man tells you that you cannot enter (only in what I can only imagine is terribly translated phrasing).
New bad guys, allright! This level is the only one in the first quest that makes me think for a bit, but you can avoid like 2/3 of the level or more if you know exactly where to go. Which I mostly do...
In the furthest North-East corner of the level, you can find this secret item room that contains the Red Ring! Sad that you can only attain it so late in the game, as it is truly a fantastic item.
Thanks to the crypticness of this game, I never figured out if he meant go to the RIGHT (where the Red Ring was, only you have to go down some to get over and up) because he was pointing out the secret item... Or if he meant blow a hole here with a bomb.
Ugh, it's like I'm playing musical stairs...
All the way over in the North-West corner of the level, the Silver Arrow is hiding.
We're going to use this to wreck Ganon very shortly.
Ugh, death by stairs. There's like, too many of 'em, and stuff.
Alright, I can hear the BOSS roaring sound in the next room. So as soon as I stomp on Patra's face, we can get to this epic battle of the fates.
Walk into Ganon's room and just keep stabbing. You have to land three or four hits with the Magic Sword before he stops.
As soon as he turns brown, shoot him in the face with a Silver Arrow and he will turn to a pile of dust.
Grab the dropped Triforce piece sticking out of the pile of Ganon's ashes, which opens the doors allowing us to proceed.
Hey look, it's the princess, and we just saved her from almost certain de-... Hey, my name is Lunk, damn it!
Oh well, at least my Princess isn't in another Castle or somesuch nonsense. Suck it, Mario!
Typical short NES video game endings. But hey, at least we've opened up another quest!
Well, it looks like we're getting ready for another adventure -- thanks for reading along, all!
