In a recently published JVS article, Jean-Claude Gégout and Christophe Coudun propose a new index, called 'typicality index', that they use to calculate how 'safe' is an classification based on diagnostic species by comparison with an expert-based one. This allows determining when a given plot observation (i.e. relevé) is intermediate between vegetation units and cannot be assigned safely.
