Ryan and I today interviewed Bill Battelle, a member of the WPI events office. He gave us many useful considerations about how to plan and arrange an event, showing us a useful format for configuring the physical setup of an event on Microsoft Publisher. He also showed us where to find an events planning sheet used by WPI to make sure all necessary points are covered and done in a timely manner.

After our ID2050 meeting, we headed straight over to the Technocopia makerspace right here in Worcester. Colin, Ryan, and I questioned a manager of the makerspace to discover how they started off and how they got to where they currently are. We received some design information that could be useful for the H3 complex. After our discussion, the manager gave us a tour of the makerspace and we were able to establish a feel for what a makerspace was and what it could be.

This morning Alex and I traveled to the local Worcester Clean Tech Incubator. We meet with the community manager and he answered our questions on the design choices of the space along with how the space is funded. Afterwards, he gave us a tour of the space and we were able to take pictures of the building for the upcoming H3 startup factory.

Today Alex and I talked with WPI's Lens and Lights President. The club provides the equipment for different events on campus, which would be useful information for potential events in our venue space. The president informed us of different sound, lighting, and projection techniques and shed some of his experience with us on which options are the best for our situation.

Today's meeting with Lens & Lights and visit to Worcester CleanTech Incubator (WCTI) were extremely interesting and shed quite a bit of light on the magnitude of work that will need to be done for in the long run for a place like H3 to be successful. During the WCTI visit it was clear that innovation is growing in the New England area, and that Worcester may very well be a growing hub for startups. During this visit Technocopia and the Worcester Project Center were also visited. Some photos, like the ones attached, were taken and are being used as inspiration for our design ideas. The Lens and Lights meeting was extremely informative in that it taught us a lot about the technologies that go into coordinating and planning events. Microphones, speakers, cabling, consoles and more will be needed to pull off a lot of more complex events, and the more equipment we need the more money it is going to take. Once we actually see the event space, and play around with the technology already in H3, what is actually needed will likely be made much more clear.

This is the last full week of classes for A-Term, and we are approaching the final presentation and proposal. We have unfortunately been lacking behind in interviewing locals up until last Thursday, where we were given encouragement to reach out to various local incubators and relavent companies. So far, we have visited and interviewed six different organizations and people, including Technocopia, Worcester Clean Tech, WPI Lens and Lights Office, WPI Events Office, TriMarkl, and Kevin Harrington. We are hoping to finish this interviewing by visiting and interviewing MIT Media Center, the Foisie Innovation Studio (set for Wednesday), Chartwell's Catering, and a few others. Hopefully we will be successful in this endeavor and create a catalog of potential ideas gathered from these groups, who we are thankful for answering us.
