The Background Section - Week 3

Post date: Sep 13, 2017 6:28:5 AM

This past week we were focused on research for the background chapter of our proposal. We started with fairly broad question around global data organization issues.

    • Where else in the world has data organization been a problem?

    • What has been done to deal with this issue?

    • What have other companies done to organize data?

From there we started researching the Open Data Movement, which is about the creation and publication of data that can be used by anyone. One example of an organization taking part in the open data movement is the US Government.

We then decided to move from broad background understanding material to more direct knowledge necessary to complete our project, that started with data visualization. Looking for the best ways to visualize data whether that be graphs and charts such as those described in The Data Visualization Catalog, or detailed info-graphics such as those on Information Aesthetics.

To focus in our research a little more we looked at what data and infrastructure the Venice Project Center currently has to allow us a better understanding of our starting point.
