PRE-ALGEBRA (1 credit)
Prerequisite: Applied Math or consent of instructor
Required Materials: Scientific Calculator, 3 ring binder with loose-leaf paper and a ruler with metric and English units.
Pre-Algebra is a course designed to develop the skills required to be successful in Algebra I/II. Mathematical content includes number sense, patterns and functions, problem solving, and connections to Geometry. Students will become proficient in signed numbers, decimals, fractions, number sense, ratios, proportions, percents, and solving multi-step and linear equations.

Chapter Descriptions: (Time spent on each chapter varies depending on abilities of class)
Chapter 1: Variables, Expression, and Integers
This chapter is just a background to basics of algebra. It introduces a lot of vocabulary and gets students to start thinking algebraically.
Chapter 2: Solving Equations
This chapter gives students practice with solving equations
Chapter 3: Multi-step Equations and Inequalities
This chapter gives students practice solving complex multi-step problems.
Chapter 4: Factors, Fractions, and Exponents
This chapter focuses on least common multiples, greatest common factors, simplifying fractions, and an introduction to exponents
Chapter 5: Rational Numbers and Equations
This chapter focuses on adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions. Students will also solve equations with fractions in them
Chapter 6: Ratio, Proportion, and Probability
This chapter teaches students how to make scale drawings and scale models.
Chapter 7: Percents
This chapter teaches students how to work with percents
Chapter 8: Linear Functions
This chapter introduces graphing to students
Chapter 9: Real Numbers and Right Triangles
Students will learn to classify triangles and solve for missing measurements
Chapter 10: Measurement, Area, and Volume
This chapter focuses on calculating area and volume for various geometric shapes
Chapter 11: Data Analysis and Probability
Students will learn various ways to analyze data and learn about probability.
