Welcome

Welcome to the Steel and Composite Structures Research pages at Heriot-Watt University.

Our research is in the field of steel and steel-concrete composite structures. We use experimental testing complemented by numerical analyses to assess and propose novel structural systems and design procedures.

The main research activities of the group are towards three main directions:

a) The development and assessment of high-performance steel and composite structures for the protection of civil infrastructure against extreme natural or man-induced hazards, e.g. strong earthquakes and progressive collapse.

b) The improvement of current methodologies for a more efficient design of steel and composite structural members.

c) The development of novel methods for increased sustainability in construction, with special focus on the potential for deconstruction and reuse of structural members and materials at the end of the service life of a building.

Please use the tabs above to find out more about past and current research projects, research outcomes, and possible opportunities for collaboration.
