Having trouble seeing when you drive your van at night? This simple kit is the most important step to getting the light you need on the road in front of you for safe night-time travel in your 86-91 Vanagon.  This kit includes factory style relay mounting bases that lock directly to the top of the 86-91 Vanagon fuse block.

Adding headlight relays to your 1986-1991 Vanagon will allow the maximum voltage available to reach your headlamps. This ensures that you get the most lumen output possible from your current lighting system. After installing this kit in my '87 Wolfsburg, I immediately gained 21% more lumen output (measured at 24") from the stock headlamps.

For even greater gains in headlight output, these relays will allow you to safely run higher wattage bulbs (up to 80/100W) without the fear of melting your headlight switch.  When running higher than stock wattage bulbs, replacing the stock plastic headlight plugs with high temperature ceramic plugs is highly recommended.  

To avoid overloading the stock headlight wires, choose a high efficiency +50 bulb like the Narva RangePower +50, or the Osram Nightbreaker instead of a 100W H3 bulb.

**Important Installation Note for Owners of Canadian vans with factory Daytime Running Lights (DRL)** 

Owners of Canadian vans with factory Daytime Running Lights (DRL) should avoid the use of higher than stock wattage bulbs due to the thin wiring used in the DRL circuit.
