The view of the lake from our backyard.
The Long Bay Property-Owners Association controls the 2 acre lake and additional 9 acres of creek. Their policy states it "shall not be held responsible for injuries sustained from drinking, swimming or even eating fish or crabs caught in the lake. The association has no Idea what types of bacteria and chemicals if any are in the water or what kind of animals, reptiles or snakes that may be inhabiting the lake." The owners of the Vagabond have eaten a bass and other fish from the lake with no adverse side-effects. Because of recent high tides, flounder have made their way into the lake. The association requires you to release any carp you catch. They were purchased at $50 a piece to keep the weeds down. Other fish are game as long as you follow the size guidelines.
No motor boats are allowed on the lake, but only hand powered such as kayaks, canoes, row boats and paddle boats or boards are allowed. We provide a canoe for your enjoyment which should be returned to its rack and locked up before your departure. This company rents out kayaks and other equipment and has free delivery. http://vacationequipmentrentals.com/

Garden City Beach's smaller pier is free and good for anyone who wants to go crabbing. Families can also enjoy a small kids', park. Take 17 Business south toward Garden City Beach. You'll see 2 overhead signs - one says Garden City Connector, and the other says Pine Ave. - both signs point left. Turn left here and go about half a mile to the dead-end at Elizabeth. The park is straight ahead at the dead end. Pull in, and you can park free inside the park. You'll see swings, play area, outdoor barbecue stands, tables, and a gazebo. Just past this point you'll see a really nice pier. At the end of the pier is a shelter: And to the left you'll see some steps. You can crab from the shelter, the steps, or along the pier. I seldom see people out there. I last visited in 2011, and except for one family leaving the play area, no one was there. I've seen people pulling in lots of crabs here, and I'm always surprised it is still almost undiscovered. P.S. Let's keep it that way!
