Thiru Kalyana Mahotsavam was celebrated at Vaduvur Kothandaramaswamy temple on Mar 22 and 23, 2016 through Vaduvur Sri Ramar Kalyana Uthsava Trust. The event includes

  • Janavasam on Mar 22 evening - Sri Ramar on Yaanai Vahanam (elephant) - The word is probably derived from "janavasa" which in Sanskrit means an assembly or place fit for all people to live. Probably the word was later used in Tamil Nadu as the place where the bridegroom and his people were accommodated on the eve of marriage. Jana i.asam is now used in the sense of the procession in which the groom is taken through the streets on the eve of the wedding. It is equivalent to North Indian practice of Baraat

  • Kalyanotsavam of Divya Thambathi on Mar 23 morning - Sita represents the female (Prakriti) while Rama, represents the male or the 'Purusha'. The priests perform marriage of Lord Rama and Sita in the presence of large gatherings of devotees, The wedding cermony is held amidst recitation of the vedic mantras and pronouncing the family pedigree of the brides and bridegroom.

  • The evening event includes Thiru Veedhi Ula (Purapadu or procession) in a special vahanam
