Post date: Jun 29, 2011 12:45:12 PM

Aadi Tirumanjanam celebration is scheduled from August 9th 2011 to September 12, 2011.

Jyesta Abishegam is scheduled on August 9th, 2011, followed by Dwadesi Tirumanjanam the next day.

Yearly, it is only during this time that you could get the darshan of Utsava Murthy (Lord Rama, Lord Sita) without the Kavasam, as shown in the photo.

Bhaktas, who would like to perform Tirumanjanam during this time are requested to contact the office for date availability and other details.

The kavacham (body armour) will be reinstalled after filling sandalwood paste on September 12th (Tamil calendar - Aavani Puratadhi).

Why on Aavani Puratadhi

Avani poorattadhi is the thirunakshatram of Srimath Therazhundur Andavan Sri Vedhantha Ramanuja Mahadesikan ((1871– 1931 CE), also popularly known as NammAndavan who adorned Acharya peetam as the 6th Andavan in the Andavan Periashramam Munithraya Sampradayam Acharya Lineage.

Ever since Srimath NammAndavan took up sanyasam, His Holiness had assimilated in himself strict austerity, extreme rigid and rigorous routines of a sanyAsi, leading a highly puritan's life of his poorvacharyas, rejecting all luxuries and conveniences.

He travelled by walk only like his predecessors observing " padhayathra" to visit holy shrines for doing Mangalasasanams of various Divya Desams, throughout south India. Some of the places he visited for doing mangalasasanam are mentioned below: Rayampettai, Mannargudi, Vaduvur(Vaduvoor), Thirukkudanthai, Thittanimuttam, Vazhuthur, Pappakoil near Nagapattinam, Mysore, Thiruppathi, Kanchi, Thiruvahindrapuram, Chidambaram Navathirupathigal, Keezhanattam(thirunelveli) etc

When His Holiness stayed in Vaduvur with his sishyas, a month was needed for manual preparation of sandalwood paste (15-20Kg) that is applied on Thirumeni of Lord Rama before Kavacham is installed. His holiness initiated the month long celebration of Aadi Tirumajanam. Hence the celebration became a month long providing opportunities to Bhaktas to have darshan of His Thirumeni without Kavacham.

His holiness adorned thirunAdu in PRAJOTHPATHI year (1931)-Aadi -Poorattadhi Krishna panchami day, that was on 03.08.1931 at the age 59 years and 11 months shortly before celebrations of His shashti-abtha-poorthi

Incidently, Sri Vaduvur Veeravali Desikachariar had his Prapatthi performed at a very tender age by Srimad Therazhundur Andavan Swami and Samasrayanam under Akkur Andavan Swami.
